You do not need to plan every detail at once. Settle these three questions first, then use them to compare your options.
Who needs to be there?
Write an approximate guest list. Include children, people travelling a long way and anyone who may need help with steps, walking distances or transport. A guest count is more useful than a mood board when you first speak to venues.
What sort of day do you want?
Choose the part you most want to protect: a small ceremony, a long meal with everyone together, a city celebration or a few days in the countryside. Write that priority in one sentence.
How will the day fit together?
Sketch the ceremony, meal, evening and journeys between them. Look for the awkward gaps: guests waiting for transport, luggage without a home or no indoor option for photographs.
